Toronto FC Enters Innovative Analytics Partnership with Sportlogiq
Sportlogiq, the Montreal based sports analytics leader, has agreed to a groundbreaking partnership with top MLS club Toronto FC.
Toronto FC, the 2017 MLS Cup Champions, will utilise Sportlogiq’s broadcast tracking technology to surface unique insights for use across match analysis, opposition scouting and player recruitment.
Toronto FC are well known as pioneers in the world of performance analytics in soccer, having utilised a cutting-edge approach to data-driven analysis for several seasons. Their partnership with Sportlogiq allows them to take this approach even further, adding another dimension to the successful and wide-ranging analytics work happening within the club.
Sportlogiq’s unique broadcast tracking data adds an extra layer of context to traditionally available metrics, generating new insights that combine to deliver an entirely new way of analysing player performance. This added context enables analysts to evaluate previously unavailable characteristics of play, providing a more complete understanding of individual decisions that players make throughout a match.
Devin Pleuler, Senior Manager Analytics, Toronto FC, said of the partnership:
“Partnering with Sportlogiq provides Toronto FC with a unique opportunity to dramatically increase the level of detail available to our scouts and analysts. Broadcast tracking data will serve as the foundation of recruitment analytics in the near-future and we’re excited to be one of the first soccer clubs in the world with access to this cutting-edge technology. ”
Craig Buntin, CEO, Sportlogiq, said “We built Sportlogiq to help teams find new ways to win, initially in the NHL but increasingly in the world of soccer. Our technology allows innovative and progressive clubs to build on traditionally available data to discover new edges, highlighting never before seen insights into the performance of players and teams. We’re delighted to be working with some real pioneers in the field of performance analytics, and Toronto are at the forefront of the industry. We’re honoured that they have chosen to work with us, and look forward to a long and successful partnership with them”
In May 2019, Sportlogiq announced its first official league partnership in soccer when it became the Official Insights Partner of the Canadian Premier League. Sportlogiq is also the NHL’s Optical Tracking Partner and the Official Data Partner of the SHL. Sportlogiq is the Performance Data and Analytics Supplier to 28 NHL teams, and works with several teams across the NFL and NCAA.
